I am trying to figure out if it is possible to and how hard it is to change caliber with a mauser 96 6.5x55 bolt. What calibers can I change to with a barrel switch. What type of barrel do I need to look for that will fit my action without much messing around. Where can I find a replacement stock for this setup? Thanks for any help in advance
Mike

Swede 96 mauser.

The swede 96 action will handle several other calibers, have a look on the trade-ex site, they have imported a lot of variations in calibers.
If you're wanting to build a custom rifle start with a good base that being a remington 700 action. Bill

Mauser 96

.
Aftermarket stocks are made by Choate, Ramline, and possibly Butler Creek, for the Mauser 96.

Why do you want to change calibres? Rusted or bad barrel, or what?

The cost of a new barrel is about $250-300+, and then you have the gunsmith's labor of about the same amount, plus about another $125 or so for the stock.

As mentioned in another post, go to the Trade Ex website, and look at the hunting and sporting rifles. For the $500 - $600+ you are going to spend on this rifle, you could buy a really good Husqvarna 1600 series rifle, complete, and ready to go. There are several calibres to choose from.

You might even consider selling your M96, and upgrading to a 1600 series, which is a commercial, upgraded M-96 with lots of features.
