Well, I am finally getting around to load up more 17 Remington shells. I have been using 16.1grns of IMR 4227 that I got from a friend a long time ago, it was in a tin can.(my rifle loved it, would shoot .5" groups @ 100) I knew I was getting low on it, so I bought some new powder but it was in the plastic tub. So tonight I ran out of my old powder, so I opened up my other pound. First thing I noticed is that the new powder looks diffrent than the old stuff. I thought no biggie, its both 4227. So I threw a charge of the new stuff, and it weighted a quite a bit more than the old stuff I was using. I never touched my powder measurer when I switched.

So, my question is this, should I adjust my measurer to through the 16.1grns on the new powder and call it good, or should I start my loads at the min. and work my way back up?? I hope my little 17 shoots this powder as good as the old stuff..... Thanks guys/gals. (if there are any gals on this site :) )

"...or should I start my loads at the min. and work my way back up??..." Yep. It has been a fairly long time since metal powder cans went away. Different powder lot.
Hodgdon owns the IMR brand name now too.
IMR4227 isn't on Hodgdon's site either. Mind you, that's not a big deal. It just means they didn't use it when their ballistics engineers worked on the data given on-line.
