Thanks in advance for your help... trying to minimize the number of different calibres for my firearms and want to go all .308, wondering if you guys could help me come up with a list of NON RESTRICTED, MAG-FED SEMI AUTO RIFLES IN .308

Please add anything you can think of. Thanks!

Winchester Mod.100, Remington makes a semi auto .308, Browning BAR, and there are several military or tactical style .308 semi's for you to choose from. All of them have detachable magazines and are easily set up for optics if you so choose. Google is your friend as well as gunnutz. I have a Mod.100 Winchester and though it's an older rifle, when I got it you could call it basically unfired. It had only seen 20 rounds through it. I find it very finicky when it comes to ammo and though I'm know I'm picky as to "acceptable" accuracy, I did manage to work up an hunting load that performs well. My buddy's BAR was more accurate, but also finicky as to ammo and a lot heavier than my Winchester. My brother loves his 7400 Remington, but it's a pig to strip down to get at the gas system, which is a common fault with many commercial semi auto's. If you like the tactical/military look, the Robinson XCR, the Norinco M 14 clone, or the BCL 102 may suit your needs. A lot depends on your budget and the intended purpose. Good luck, whatever you settle on.

Comes down to how much money you want to spend & intended use.

If you want to tinker the ARish rifles can't be beat....BCL102 sounds like very nice choices with the STAG10 being the more refined, with well supported dealer network, slightly better choice perhaps but opinions vary. The Norinco clones of the M14 are really fun to tinker with and can be built up to be quite light and have a traditional stock....pro / con. The XCR-M is a wonderful rifle and really needs nothing added to it right out of the box which is a big plus! It is also multi-caliber capable.

I have owned or own all of them and I like to modify my firearms and have experienced great joy shooting the M14 turning it from a so, so rifle to a accurate, reliable firearm. Same goes for the ARish rifles. Having said that AR's are my favorite rifle to own due to the customization you can achieve. Its just fun!

However the XCR's I own are my favorite shooters and go to rifles due to there out of box reliability, simplicity, durability and portability with the folding stocks. My kids prefer shooting the XCR's as well. I think primarily due to the adjustable gas system & efficient factory brakes they are very soft shooters.

Robinson Armament was also excellent on up grading my XCR to tack driver status....the new muzzle brake and match trigger allow me to get MOA or better with federal gold medal sierra match king. Its on par for me with any of my ARish rifles now.

You can't go wrong with any of the rifles I mentioned above.

Good luck keeping your calibre numbers down, I tried and failed. Having said that, for .308, depending on your needs, get a good and fun bolt and semi .308, at least one 7.62x39, 7.62x54r, a 30-06 and IMHO a .300 WinMag. All of these are .30 cal and many bullets are interchangeable if you reload.

Does your buddy want to sell his BAR? ;)

Does your buddy want to sell his BAR? ;)

Sorry mon ami, he sold it some time ago. He's a southpaw so he stuck to semi auto and/or lever action. Myself and some friends chipped in and bought him a Savage left hand bolt action. Like me, he's a bolt guy, but had a lot of trouble finding a left hand rifle in .308 at a decent price. Now he's happy as could be, and the rifle is shooting silver dollar sized groups at 100 yds. with factory ammo so he's ready for the season. Bear in mind, if you find a nice BAR, it's pretty much a gunsmith proposition when it comes to tear-down and full cleaning. I'm pretty tool handy, did some research on the internet, and started to take 'er apart. I quickly learned that Browning had several different variants of the action and I stopped when the parts didn't coincide with the video and just put it back together. The Winchester Mod.100 is not too complex if you're competent with tools and I take mine down completely at the end of the season, clean everything, and put it away until the next shoot. My brother told me that tearing down the Remington's isn't too bad, harder than the Winchester but not as complex as the BAR. I've seen several Mod.100's for sale on the EE, but until you have them apart, you don't know how good or bad the owner has been regarding maintenance. The gas system in any semi auto is the key. If they're not maintained, you'll get corrosion.
