hey guys,

what methods do you recomend for refinishing stock? mainly the steps i would need to follow to do a good job and the materials required.

the stock is off a swedish mauser if that helps in the methodology.

are there any favorite websites that i can check out?

thanks in advance!!!:D

Here is the process I use:
1) If there is shellac, I remove it with denatured alcohol. (Not applicable for you)
2) Using steel wool and mineral spirits, I clean the stock several times.
3) Finally, I do about 5 coats of Behr's Tung Oil.

I think the final step is dependent on what type of rifle you are refinishing. Some would use BLO instead of the Tung Oil. Here is a fantastic forum for stock cleaning and refinishing:

Wood is wood. Use the same products you do for fine furniture.
"...BLO vs Tung oil argument..." Nope. Which one you use depends on what kind of finish you want. BLO is usually flat. Tung oil, properly rubbed in, will give you a nice sheen. The more coats you put on and rub in, the greater the shine. Scratch either and you just put a bit more oil on to make the scratch go away.
