Hey everyone.

I have a pink laminate stock, and was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding refinishing it.

The only method I've found from searching online is shellac-ing followed by oil based paints.

Does anyone have any experience with this method or have any other techniques?

Black spray paint?? Cammo Krylon??? :D:D

Just kidding!
First you need to decide what type finish you want. High gloss, matte?? Weather, scratch, sun resistance? Easily touched up?
Lot's of choices!!

Sounds like a boyds stock, only one I know of doing the pink beauties. I would suggest looking at the minwax tung oil finish. A couple coats and you will have a well sealed and uv resistant rig. The beauty with the rubbed finishes is that you can try to make it glossy or make it matte finish to your taste. Good luck...

Thanks for the tips.

I should have mentioned that I do not want to keep the pink colour.

As to the finish I'm looking for, If I can keep the natural grain of the wood, I'd like to have it look like a normal wooden stock (brown stain type), otherwise, I'll probably try to create a matte camo.

I think you might be disapointed, the colour goes all the way through. i have no suggestion or how or If it can be removed.

your gonna need to play with some stains, maybe a greenish stain will change it to a decent colour, it may be possible to pull the recoil pad off to have an area to sample first.

I just used something for protecting hard wood floors for mine and it worked well enough for my needs.

Don't think you'll get the pink to go away completely. Depends on what the laminate is made out of though. May not be wood at all.

sell it and get a new one in different color laminate.most likely never get the pink color out.if it doesn't turn out good, you might not get it looking good enough for your liking and no one else will want it either.

you will not get the pink out as it is pressure dyed. sell the pink one, someone will snap it up for a wife or GF and order the new stock you want in the color you want. after that paint is next option

I have one I bought for my niece and she hated pink, her favorite color is blue. I went to CT and bought a spray can of candy color blue paint. I sanded the stock with 220 paper and sprayed on several coats letting it dry between coats. It looks great and you can still see the laminate through the transparent paint.
I think I posted pics some where I will try and find them or take more later if I get a chance. She loves it.

Sand the surface then either bleach the wood with a wood bleach (hydrogen peroxide) or alternatively stain darker with a Minwax oil based stain. Not the stain and varnish stuff!
Finish with a coat of oilvarnish or Birchwood Casey's true oil.
Problem with most spray paints is that the first time a solvent(ie bore cleaner) touches them they dissolve.
Pink being a shade of red would show through the blue candy laccer wouldn't it? Creating a purple gun?....purple is sOooo much better than pink. Lol
To each his own. Walnut would be my choice of cover up.
