Help reloading shotgun shells

hello, i just started reloading the other week with a mec jr, its great , i use sts shells and i call them green gold, i was wondering i load them with 16.3 grains of 700x and i use 209 cheddite primer with a grey claybuster wad with 7/8 number 9 shot , my question is about changing hulls , i dont want to take these shells in the bush when i shoot guys with my friends becuase i lose them , its easy to pick them up at the skeet feild and trust me i do , hence the green gold , i have some canadian tire hulls and some wallmart hulls, people tell me their not good for reloading but can i reload them once with the same recipe i have for my sts shells and still get the same effect, that way i can shoot trees and not have to pick up the shells, thanks

I think it is wise to only use loads/components that you have data for, the internal capacity is diff. for most hulls, so the same load will have diff. pressures in diff. cases. You may be alright here as you are using a very light load, however the components may not be the right fit in another hull and cause crimping problems ie: crimp pushed in too deep or crimp won't close completely, etc. One other problem is the fit of the wad in the hull, some wads are meant for cases that have a taper on the inside, like your STS or AAs, and some are for a straight sided case like the Federal GMs.

Rem gun clubs are the best cheap shell for reloading. As a bonus you should not have to adjust your loader or loads as it's a steel based STS hull.

You need to get yourself a Lyman Shotshell Reloading Manual.

Correct. Also the internal shape can be different thus requiring another type of wad.

Shooting trees, leaving your hulls in the bush?

Slob behavior like that hurts all shooters and is one of the reasons we have fewer places to shoot.
