I shot my steven's 200 (.223) at my range before which only goes 30 yards and it won't sight in (adjustments max out when I turn the turrets down) but I figured I need to back up.

Today at 50 yards or more it hits about 6 inches too high and it's maxed out. I can take pics if you need em anyways, but I have medium rings (Vortex I believe) and a vortex diamondback3.5-10x50mm scope. The clearence from the from part to bore is about 1/4", hope that helps and thanks

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. Brand new out of the box pre remlington Marlin 336 30/30 with a redfield 3X9X40. Scope is maxed out for elevation. This problem is extremely frustrating:mad:. TTT for this thread!!

~ Correct rings and bases?
~ Bases properly installed?
~ Is the scope being adjusted in the correct direction?...have you checked the instructions?
~ Is the scope, or cover, touching the rear sight or touching the barrel?
~ Has the rifle been boresighted?

1. Yes, the bases are in the recoil lug and locked in place
2. Yes, the scope is being adjusted in the correct direction as per th bore sighter
3. No, the scope is not touching the barrel
4. See answer to question #2.

Next step, Windage adjustable rings??

1. ? - Not rings...are the scope mount bases correct?

Windage adjustable bases won't affect elevation issues.

Many recent Marlins have a droopy barrel (not aligned with the top of the action)
Remedies? Many!
Shim your ring mounts
Get angled scope mounts or base
Get Burris signature offset rings
Send the rifle back for repairs.

I'll double check all that tomorrow and include pics, I have to sleep now but I think it's all set up right
1) The bases should be alright, (I'll check tomorrow)
2)I did adjust it in the right direction for sure, haven't checked instructions,
3)Scope isn't touching anything even with covers on (1/4" clearence)
4) Not boresighted.

Shimmed the 1 piece base at the last screw of the one piece mount with a thin 3/16" washer. This will be a temporary fix until I can get windage adjustable rings. When you say its a droopy barrel on the recent marlins or is the top of the receiver tapered?
If I look at the rifle in the gun vise, its as plain as day that the top of the receiver is gradually tapered toward the end of the rifle. New stupid design?

You have the wrong bases. The rear should be identical to the front.

Those were the two they sent me, so they should be the same? If you're refering to the gap in the front one, I don't think it matters does it, since it's still screwed in tight and pushing onto the bottom?
I'm still a noob with this, sorry

The bases are attached to the receiver and provide a place to attach the scope rings. The rings wrap around the scope and attach to the scope bases.

The rings you have are fine. But if you look at the rifle from the side you will see that the scope is not parallel to the barrel and receiver. The rear of the scope is higher than the front and the scope tube is being bent.

You do have Weaver "style" bases, I can't tell the brand. What you do need is one #46 Weaver base, part #48046, then replace the rear base. Check the front base and see if a number is stamped on it, if it is not stamped #46 then you need to replace it also with an additional #46 base.

Note ~ Savage changed the diameter and shape of the rear receiver ring. The bases you received are probably for the "old" style receiver.

I thought you meant the base of the rings, sorry. I unmounted it and yeah I see now, the back base was a bit higher...now I wonder if the scope is damaged at all and there are small indents in the front bases, where the rings pushed in to the slot but I don't think it would matter. One says '46'. the other says '40A'. Okay thank you for the help, I should have noticed that!

Yeah, there might be a bit of damage to the scope tube but a lot of the "bending" is more flex than damage.
