Hi, I am trying to help sell a collection of handguns for a family member. We have one gun in the collection that I can not find a value on. I have looked on the internet and he has searched a few gun appraisal books.

Can one of you expects help me set a value on this Colt Parabellum TZ 75 Chambered in 9MM

The gun is in like new condition, no box, one magazine.

Thank you in advance for your help with this project.

The TZ-75 is made by Tanfoglio in Italy. It is a clone of the Czech CZ-75.
If it says "Colt" on the slide, perhaps Colt marketed some Italian made pistols.
How about a clear photo of the markings on frame and slide?

Looks just like the TZ-75 mfg by Tanfoglio.

Were these made for Colt by them?

NAA.

I suspect it is the Tanfoglio TZ-75, a copy of the Czech CZ-75, chambered in "Colt 9mm Parabellum". I have one of these myself. On mine, the "Colt" labeling refers to the caliber it's chambered in, not the manufacturer that built it.

While made by Tanfoglio, these are not the Cadillac versions marketed today. They were decent shooting guns for the time, but made to a price point near the low end of the spectrum. A fair price would be in the $300-450 range.

$300?? maybe in really bad shape. It's not a Norinco or a prohib...

If I'm not mistaken they were always well made, never held one but if memory serves they were well received. Also I'm pretty sure they were never dirt cheap as you seem to be suggesting.

yes, this is a Colt...says so on the side on the slide.

Where does it say Colt on the slide? I enhanced the pictures rather a lot and can't find it. All I can see is on the left side of the frame (Mod. TZ 75 Made in Italy / Cal. 9mm Parabellum / Elli Tanfoglio) and the slide (very difficult to discern but I know it should be about the warnings in the manual). On the right is a smear of what should be the serial number.

I can't find anything pertinent on Google for ‘Colt Tanfoglio TZ 75’ either.

What is a Colt 9mm Parabellum round? Never heard of it; you've got one? (For what it's worth, the entire Wikipedia article on 9x19 Parabellum does not have the name Colt once.)

I think people are confusing the abbreviation CAL. for COLT. Barring some strange, secret special edition, or a hybrid, the pistol has been identified as a Tanfoglio.

Have a look at the price leader Tanfoglio you can buy today, and ask yourself what it's 25 year old used cousin is worth.

I'd say in new condition a fair bit more than $300. I'd venture at minimum $450-$500. How can you compare a polymer framed entry level pistol to an all steel and what may be Hard chromed one? Would you estimate the price of an original Sig P 220 by comparing it to a P 250? Never mind it may be a rare item in Canada judging by the responses here.

A quick search stated that the Tanfoglio clone was better made than the original CZ. Show me an original like new CZ-75 for $300 and I'll be getting out the plastic...

We can debate this topic forever but in reality it is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. The problem is the OP knows that if he is to cheap in his asking price then he may not make as much as he could have if he knew the value of the gun before he listed it. Do what a lot of people do here just list it for really big dollars and when it doesn't sell then start dropping the price until it does sell. Just mt two cents worth.

And Graydog servers up a big dose of reality...

The gun in the link is all steel. I know they also make the polymer framed models (Force or the IMI models) but I was comparing the Combat model.

I'm glad your Google search helped. Did you ever handle the FIE imported Tanfoglio's or the early 80's Lever Arms imported CZ's?

I did.
