Weirdest problem. Just put a HERA arms bottom on my SL8 with a MAGPUL stock and all the goodies. Besides having to grind out the ERGO grip a bit so the saftey return spring had room to breathe I'm having problems getting the gun to HOLD OPEN on the last round.

anybody else have this problem?

Cheers.

Are you using factory magazines, or AR15 mag adaptor?

Even sometimes the SL8 magazines will not properly work because the spring pressure, but if the hold open mechanism is in the lower, then it may not be to spec completely.

If the hold open mechanism is in the upper in the little protrusion, mabey there is something rubbing on the hold open latch.

CHeck out the hold open system, and compare it between the new stock/lower system and the factory SL8 lower/stock.

using g36 mags. never had this problem before I changed the lower. but what I'm curious to know is if anybody else that bought this kit has had this problem.

cheers.

I am having the same problem with the factory 5 round mags. The 10 round LAR 15 mags seem to work. I have not taken it to the range since I installed the HERA conversion, but if I manually cycle the action it will not hold open on the factory mags. If I hold the action open and then insert an empty factory mag the hold open will work. If I put the AR mag conversion in, the hold open works fine. The hold open never failed prior to the HERA conversion.

I've never had this problem with the g36 mags. But since I switched to the hera kit I don't have hold open. Guess I gota take the trigger apart and make sure that my springs are aligned properly.

Well, I just tried my G36 mag and it works fine. Just the 5 round factory ones don't seem to work for me.

G36 mag = hold open OK
LAR 15 mag = hold open OK
SL8 mag = hold open failed

Figured It Out!

Since I hate when people post the questions but never the answers I thought I'd follow through..

1) Pricing is around 680 or so PLUS all the other stuff you need to screw on to it (stock, gas tube thingy, castle nut, grip) so by the time your done expect about a g note.

2) sticking mag hold open..... AHAH! take your grip out. pull out the hammer and spring assembly. There is the spring that has the end of it going up and over to the hold open push button. It has two notches on the hold open, one on the left and one just right of it. IF you put the spring on the left one it puts MORE tension on the hold open (in the DOWN direction) and make it stiffer to go up. The LAR mags have a stiffer spring then the g36 mags so they overcome this increased tension. When you slide the spring end to the right notch the problem reduceds (in my case to nil) have hold open every time so far. I'm also going to take that pin that holds the springs for the hammer and put it into my lathe and take a bit off of it in the middle where the hold open rubs so I let it slide a bit easier.

hope it helps you fellas out there. I just put the spring in the left notch because it looks like it supposed to go there, but in fact my buddies bone stock sL8 has it in the notch just right of the left one (still on LEFT SIDE OF catch riser - for lack of a better term)

cheers.

I also noticed that some of the pins slide a bit too easy in and out of the new grip. Nothing problematic, just something to be aware of. mostly it is that one that is untensioned that gives the hammer something to hit when being thrown out of the way by the slide. I just dipped the end of it in blue lock tite so it won't slide out and fall out when the gun is disasemmbled. problem fixed and you can still drive it out with a punch if nessescary.

cheers.

I'd like to mail a hooker to the guy that designed this trigger. Man is it sweet. with a nice ergo grip to keep my mountain guy caloused hands all nice and happy.

My spring position was already the one closer to the bolt catch. I filed the groove the catch fits into and manually slid the catch up and down to work it in. Also, the hammer hits the indents where the pin for the bolt catch goes. On the factory stock there is a 45 degree angle on the inside and outside of the stock. The conversion has a sharp 90 in the inside. I had to file the inside to a 45 degree angle for the hammer to stop hitting. See pic:

Man, I just took parts out, then put parts in, and it worked just fine. Actually better. With the Top Notch folder, the bolt hold open only worked with the 5 round mags. With the HERA it works with all, 5 and 30 round mags. Still retains a very good trigger.

still having problems with this one. I think my spring holding the bolt catch down might be too strong. I've filed a tonne of the material out but it still won't catch. When I fire the gun with my middle finger and just slightly push up on the bolt catch with my trigger finger it catches (so the bolt is definitely coming back far enough). I'm going to take it apart and put some honing compound in it now to see if I can lighten the sliding resistance.

On the SL8 there are two seats for the spring one lower and one about 3mm higher. Put the spring on the higher one.
