Help! Stripped thread on FEG-9 (browning hi-power) grip screw!

Bought an FEG 9 a while back, and it's great except a grip that kept coming loose. Well cut to the chase, the tapped hole in the frame of the pistol is stripped. I want to fit it myself, but the problem is that the hole is quite close to the edge of the frame, close enough that if I were to drill it out for a heli coil, or a Nassau threaded insert, the newly drilled hole would over lap the edge. A guy could always weld the hole and re drill and tap, but I'm not sure how you'd do that without making a mess. JB weld? Red thread lock and forget taking the grip off again? Any gunsmiths input would be great.

Loctite and 3M both make a thread repair product that will work for you. A visit to their web-sites will get you sorted.

+1 on what FDC says. Crappy Tire carries it. The other thing is steel epoxy, fill the hole. Drill and retap GENTLY with proper metric tap size and should work as well.
