Looking for some help/pointers on Id'ing this Carl Gustaf..

It just happened to follow me home on Saturday. :D

This is my first Mauser and first 6.5x55, but I've always wanted one !!

I realize this is a bubba.. but my first thought is it was made based on a milsurp.. Will move the post to hunting/sporting if I'm wrong..

She has a tapered barrel, which I thought was odd and perhaps custom. My first thought was CG63 based?

Any thoughts/pointers/bumps in the right direction would be appreciated.

You have a Carl Gustaf, barreled action, set in a sporter stock, numbers appear to match on the barrel, receiver and bolt. Low position safety, the barrel is military with the step profile. It looks as though the action is bedded.
Appears to be a very nice sporter, let us know how it shoots.
Enjoy Bill

Thanks Bill..

Would you typically see a tapered barrel in a stock military form? Is it possible it started as a heavy target barrel and was tapered to remove/reduce weight?

Wood..

Can't seem to locate a date at all????

No sights... full pic below 1/4 shot down barrel

The butt plate is sporter.. as per below..

There is "Jaspen" written on the plate..

Probably a Tradex import. I suspect its a sported military rifle, and quite well done. Chances are the rear sight was removed, and the barrel was tapered down on a lathe. Note the threaded hole in the barrel ahead of the receiver - thats were the rear sight was secured.

Looks pretty well put together. At first I thought it might be a CG built sporter, but I've never seen one of them with a bolt in white. But then again the companies like Stiga and Faulan usually sanitize the receivers. Jaspen might just be a company that made the conversions in Sweden. Post some pics and a question about the rifle over at the Swedish Civilian Board at Gunboards. You might get some answers there.

Well you won't see the date unless you remove the front scope base.
Whoever did the work was certainly a professional gunsmith.
Very nice rifle.

The overall barrel contour appears a bit different in that there is the first step in front of the chamber but no second step. So it was recontoured by a gunsmith. It makes no difference though the swedes made very good barrels. Try it out and show us some targets.
