Trying to identify a firearm from the Robert Altman film McCabe & MrsMiller

Firearm is noted but not identified in the Internet Movie Database.

It may be made up and faked (greeked) for the movie.

It is a very long single barrel gun with an unusually long straight bolt handle on the right side.

They call it an Elephant gun online but not so sure.

In 1900s Washington State - 3 Bounty hunters arrive and hunt McCabe when he refuses to sell out to a mining interest.

The kid - a blond punk with a Colt 1873

The Breed - a tracker with a Winchester 1894 long barrel

Jake Butler - a British/Canadian carrying a long single barrel bolt action elephant gun

I found a few images of it online posted below.

I have assembled some video clips of the firearm.

I have found a video clip of the Finale where you see it fired.

Also the full movie shows the complete shoot out as McCabe is hunted in the town starting at the 1:41 point.

As it is snowing Butler keeps it covered a lot which makes it hard to see the bolt unless he is shooting it.

The Elephant gun is fired at 1:43.45

Again at 1:55

Earlier in the movie at 1:13:45 when the Bounty hunters arrive you also see the firearm.

Butler rides in, then turns the horse

The Firearm is slung along the right side.

Any ideas?? :)

Couldn't be much good for elephants, absolutely no recoil. Looks very light for it's size as well. One of my favorite movies.

Grizz

One of my favorites too! :)

The actor playing Butler is over 6'6" which might account for the handling looking light.

(And the coat he is wearing looks like he skinned Bigfoot :d )

I would not expect much recoil as he is most certainly not firing a full load and of course no projectile.

That long bolt sticking out is the most interesting part.

That is why I suspect it may be a real firearm.

I can't see them faking a firearm by adding something odd like that.

Internet movie data base has a few interesting items in that movie.

Usually don't see a American movie with a Montenegrin Gasser revolver
