Help to remove scratches on finish

I have a SW 686 revolver and the previous owner scratched the stainless steel finish. What can I use to polish and remove the scartches ?
Thanks guys

Depends on the depth of the scratches........
Deeper scratches require a more aggressive abrasive, but don't go overboard. My 686 was new when I bought it, so I never needed anything more than 000 steel wool with a stainless steel polishing compound to get rid of all the minor scratches. Whatever you decide you use, test it first on the frame under the grips.

Thank you weapon tech.
Scratches are VEY superificial so it shouldn'T be a problem.
What kind of stainless steel polishing compound do you recommend ?

I used some no-name stuff left over from the 50's that I found in the shop, and it worked well. Check-out what others have to say about what to use on here this weekend; there may be better commercial stuff at Canadian Tire, etc that will work just as well.
I would recommend a paste either way, applied directly to a polishing cloth, or fine steel wool.......and buff in a single direction only, (follow the original buffing grain). Mine took about three applications, done slowly and carefully. It looked like glass when it was finished. Then I sold it.....

Try using Flitz. Depending on the depth of the scratches it might polish them out. Also the stuff is great for cleaning powder residue from stainless revolvers.

Thanks weapontech
used 000 steel wool + bluemagic (from canadian tire) since I couldn't find flitz...
The bluemagic stuff was AMAZING. just one tiny application and scrubbing with steel wool and it was done.
I highly recommend that stuff for stainless steel finish

AUTOSOL metal polish can also be found at Cantire, it is imported from Germany.

I use this with a felt wheel on my dremel tool, be careful or your stainless steel will come like chrome (nickle plating).

I use this to remove the black rings from around the cylinders on my GP100.
