I have a friend who is having failure to fire problems with his Glock pistol. I am not up to speed on these things so before he sends it off to be factory spec'd, I'd like to see if anyone in the CGNiverse can help.

Here's the deal:

Light primer strikes with a tiny round imprint rather than the usual oblong. Happens intermittently with factory ammo as well as reloads. Gun is all the way in battery.
Storm Lake Machine ported barrel with 15 lb recoil spring. All else is stock. Gen 4 I believe.

He says he's seen this happen with a couple other Glocks as well.

Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks guys; I was thinking along these lines as well. My first thought is either carbon build-up or damage to the firing pin. Second thought is firing pin safety. I've seen all this stuff in 19/2011's, CZ's Tanfo's etc. Just haven't done the Glock thing yet.
I'll run all this past my friend and see what shakes out.

Crud buildup in firing pin channel if higher round count since last detail strip of slide would also be my guess.

I've seen primer cup exterior shavings build up there, not just carbon.

With the slide field stripped from the frame, do you get much firing pin protrusion when you gently push it towards the front of the slide
while depressing the firing pin safety plunger?

That would hint at crud levels.

Are you sure the rests are stock ? Light primer strikes could also mean that he had replaced the original firing pin spring and/or firing pin safety spring and/or trigger spring with lighter competition springs. Possible that one of these springs or combinations of them can cause light primer strikes due the "light" pound pressures these springs produced.

I don't think he's swapped it out. I'm copying him on all of this but he checks his email like, once every other day.
It all makes sensebthough; I've seen primer shavings foul lots of other guns too. Especially high pressure loads.
