Probaly the spring inside isnt wound correctly, either not tight enough or to tight. Its a fairly simple procedure to play with the spring tension. Check out 10/22 BX1 magazine disassembly videos on youtube.

Thanks for the info, I rewound the spring to spec 1 1/4 turns, the previous setting was significantly more. In hindsight I could dent the second last casing during loading. knowing what I know now that is too much.

Very interesting....my Vq 22LR has zero issues but the mag that came with the rifle appears to have too many turns on the spring as well making it hard to load with the last round. I prefer using another mag that I have available. Time to take the original mag apart....
