this came attached to a no.4 i purchased, it attached at the trigger gaurd and the rear of the receiver,thanks

It's the mount plate for a Central receiver sight. Did the sight come with the rifle?

People do use Central sights, I forget if it was in Australia...I think if you look you'll be able to find the rest of it, but don't ask me where....edited to add, have a look at the auction!
