Help with an Ar

Try it with one round in the mag, load and fire, does the carrier stay to the rear ?? this is a good exercise to test for short stroking. If it does not, then it's most likely short stroking, check lube, check gas rings.

it could be the mag feeding the round to slow, causing the feeding angle to be too sharp, in this case the mag would be the cause (similar symptom can occur if mildly short stroking, the carrier might just go back far enough to clear the round but then it could make the bolt strip the round before it has time to come all the way up)

Slow it down here guys, it is a 20" Colt ...the best of the breed in terms of reliability.

LOL...

Sorry man... 'Couldn't help myself. Probably just coincidence, but the only AR's I've ever seen break/FAIL were all Colts. :D

Ok guys, I lubes the #### out of it and took it to the range today with some heavier bullets, 62 gr. It functioned Flawlessly! My guess it was the bullets, but either way problem fixed and I love my ar

On a side note here is how you check to see if your gas rings should be replaced.

1. Clean and assemble your BCG
2. Extend the bolt
3. Stand the BCG on the bolt
4. The friction of the rings should keep the bolt extended.

If not time for new rings.

Thanks Gunnerlove on that last part about checking the BCG...I was not aware of that method. I consider it a good day if I've learned something new so again...thanks :)

Don't use lube on your guns below 0. Keep it dry or use graphite powder. The carrier might be seizing in the buffer tube on the forward action. Or, the chamber could be fouled as well. Excessive lube combined with carbon is an AR's worst enemy.

That's a negative Ghost Rider!!! Never run an AR dry, keep it wet but not dripping, stay away from CLP in the winter and go to a light gun oil or moly- grease. I'm not sure where you got your info from but it is wrong.

x2.

ARs need lube to run reliably. Use a low temp lube if you are in seriously cold weather. -8C is not really cold, either.
