I'm going to be reloading some 303 savage, right now I have some 30 cal (308 win)bullets but they are much longer and have the pointed tip compared to the bullets that came with the 303 savage. The cases (303 sav, 308 win) are the same length but when loaded the original savage is 2.520 and if I load the longer bullet it will be 2.810. If I load these they will be longer but the rotarty clip will hold them and where the bullet tapers it still will fit in the chamber no problem. My question is will this be ok to use. As I've never seen any shell for a 303 savage that was not RN tip. Or should I get the shorter 30/30 30 caliber bullets and use them to keep the original length?

You can use either 150-165gr SP or 180rn/170FN.....as long as they both chamber and cycle through the mag.I have loaded 180RN in a 30-30.........Harold

303 Savage

Thats one of the benefits of reloading all sorts of options, either bullet will work. At the slower vel of this caliber you do not need any of the tough controlled expansion type of bullets.
Take care and enjoy. Bill

Just an update I cannot use the longer 30 caliber bullet, it will not eject it properly, too long and when I try and load the rotary with more than one it is too tight. I guess I'll have to order the 30/30 type 30 caliber

Just use a shorter 308 bullet (tip design won't matter in a 99). Load to the same col as the RN rounds (or any factory rounds, for that matter). - dan

Yes thanks, I wish some of the sites would give the measurement of the bullets, I know the rn in the 150 and 170 will work and there are other ones with the poited soft point that look small but there are no measurements.

I have a bunch of loads from Ken Waters Pet Loads for almost all bullet weights.I'm at work so will get them and post for you...................Harold ***by all mean you can use 150-165 SP

Try IMR3031-31.5gr/150gr -2280fps. 28gr IMR 3031/170gr-1950 fps...34.5gr IMR 4895/150 GR-2310fps...,26gr RE7-165gr/2140fps...180gr-30.5gr IMR 4320/1925FPS....,150gr-34gr-IMR 4064-2265 fps....use at own risk......Harold
