Help with CPCA allowed duty pistols

Have a quick question before I narrow my choice of firearm down.

In the CPCA approved duty pistol list (http://www.cpca-ppc.ca/More_Info/approved_duty_pistol_list.htm) it simply states the base model of firearm allowed. Can you use any variation of these pistols as they come from the factory?

IE
CZ-75 - Is the Shadow allowed (says cz-75 sp-01 shadow on slide)
H&K USP - USP Expert allowed, even though it has a longer barrel?
Sig 226 - does that include the Elite, and 226 x-five models?

I know the PPC9 is not allowed, even though it is a tuned 5906, but it does not say 5906 on it, just PPC9. Is that why it's not allowed, or is there another reason?

I know using a factory tuned firearm under the guise of a base model pistol is not entirely in the spirit of Duty competition, but I am looking for a new gun to also shoot Auto 1500 and Distinguished, and not lose out at 50 yards.

Any of these guns will shoot better that I, but I want to purchase one I can get proficient with, and know the pistol isn't to blame for poor(ish) accuracy.
 
you might have to wait until the PPC crowd logs in,..mostly IPSC and IDPA folks frequent this area on a more regular basis.
 
I would suggest that you not get a jack of all trades auto.

DP requires either DAO/TDA/DAK/Striker Fired "Service Grade"
pistols with long first pulls > 5lb triggers and 2nd pulls > 3.5lb.
No S/A pistols are permitted. You will also need a L2 holster.

Only FIXED sights offered by the manufacturer can be installed.
As for "tricking them out". The rules permit barrel changes and
options only available from the manufacturer. DP is about using
basic equipment, LEO issued stuff.

S&W PPC9 has adjustable sights and is a S/A pistol, so that is why
it is not permitted.

My reading of the rules, any Sig P226 configuration (Elite or X-Five)
which meets the DP rules would be good. That would rule out most
X-Fives (which are S/A and have adjustable sights). You can shoot
near perfect scores with a stock stock stock alloy framed P-226. I
have seen it done by Grand Masters.
 
I have to say,..that list needs some serious updating! That is 2006,...so many new pistols in use by LE in Canada and abroad. Is this list inclusive to Canada usage?
 
Well, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that there is no gun that can do it all. The closest would probably be a Para LDA. I'd definitely need to try one first. Has anyone ever shot a double action 1911? Is it as good as the gun rags would have us believe?

I have a Para LDA 18.9, and it is just fine. Good for IPSC Production and IDPA.
 
You really don't need much to shoot DP effectively. A knock off NP58/NP34/NP22 with 4 mags
and a used LEO L2 holster off Ebay get you into the 1450s. You only need a
pistol which can hold 3 inches at 25 yards with cheap ammo to make the grade.

Save your $ for that tricked 50 yard pistol and match ammo.

How is the accuracy? Have you sandbaged for groups at 50 yards?

Well, it probably won't get me into the 1450's, but I get your point ;)

I think I will get two pistols, if not a LDA. Two is better than one, right :D

Now to get my wife on board...:nest::eek:

I haven't sand bagged the LDA for groups at 50,, maybe when I have more time in the summer. Accuracy wise, it is better than the Glock, and as good a the Sig.
