Help with custom 1022 build . Thermal expansion? To set a barrel

Hi guys I'm trying to finish a 1022 built. The problem I'm having is , I bought a Kidd stainless steel barrel and a Dlask 1022 reciever I'm trying to get the barrel in the receiver but its really tight. Would it be okay if I put the aluminum receiver in the oven to heat it up so I can get the barrel in the receiver.

Yup, and maybe put the barrel in the freezer for a bit too. It may help it contract a bit. Also, oil on the shank helps as well.

I did 250F. You may have to sand the shank down a little bit. My Kidd barrel was too tight to install into Dlask receiver.

Barrel in freezer for an hour, receiver in oven at 250 for 20 minutes. Mine went in easy as you please

Dlask confirmed that some combinations may not be a simple fit and that precision machining is required and would be best. If you bought the parts from them, they will do it for free.

Wife's hair dryer id the fit for me. I have since bought a heat gun for if I have to take it apart. Otherwise I will go to Dlask.

i had a green mountain barrel that wouldn't go together. left the barrel in the freezer over night, heat gunned the receiver then tapped the barrel in with a dead blow hammer. not sure it would ever come out again.

I would highly recomend an anti seize compound on the barrel tennon as well as the receiver. IMPERITIVE is to align properly the extractor groove or ur DLD. I have put together more than my share and heating the barrel and freezing the receiver helps dramatically but better is to freeze the barrel and heat the receiver in my opinion. The barrel is steel and changes temp much more slowly than the aluminum receiver, im sure your following. I would also suggest precise measures of both receiver and barrel tenon. Ive put a couple together that im sure the hulk couldnt get apart. Some barrel tenons are a bit oversized and some aftermarket receivers are a few thou tighter. A combo of both or even one can create BIG PROBLEMS. If material from one or both components needs to be reduced I woulsd suggest the aid of a gunsmith or good machinist. Just my opinion and best of luck on your build

It has been suggested to keep the big and small within 0.001"... that would be a very snug fit. The reason is that the alum receiver might distort if too big a barrel is hammered into the receiver.

Snug is good, distorted may not be so good.
