I repaced the striker spring in Bernadelli pistol with a cut down recoil spring from a Ruger Mark II. Diameter was right, and I get the correct amount of indentation on the case rim. An original Bernadelli part was unavailable.

OK, now I get every fourth or fifth round misfeeding. Standing straight up in the breach. Why? Obviously I get a striker hit that lights up the primer. I have tried a new mag thinking I had worn lips, but the result is the same.

For the round to stove pipe, it has obviously been stripped from the mag but has failed to enter the chamber. How can this be caused by changing a striker spring? Are the problems unrelated?

The recoil has to #### the striker and if it takes more effort it will slow everything down. Sounds like you are very close to having it right. You can mount the old spring (or part) on a pin and add a weight and see how much it compresses and then do the same with the new one to compare. You may need to cut off a coil.

new spring

Yes, that makes sense. I can not do as you suggest though, as the original spring was broken and a segment never recovered.
