help with ideas for building low budget target rifle

I neck turn all my brass in the lathe and trim/chamfer on the mill. :)
180gr Scenar L would be another good bullet worth trying in a 284win.

Now you got to decide if you want to shoot with a tripod front rest or bipod. If bipod, you need to figure it into the weight of the rifle if you build your own stock. With tripod you can go up to 22lbs for the rifle, tripod isn't counted in the weight.
You can make your own either way, I built a co-axial tripod rest 3-4yrs ago, fun project mostly as I didn't know how they worked. If you go the tripod way, the front end of your stock should slide on 2 ski's, not touching the front rest bag in the middle.

Yeah Jerry, I've noticed that lol. Thanks for the encouraging laughter.
also i have 2 questions for you. If you had to guess, how many fires will that brass last if loaded to about 2800fps and that should be around 55k psi, a compressed load [58gr] of H4831sc, or about 48gr of Varget. and other question is what thickness recoil lug will i need for that barrel?

SND, i have an old myford super7 here ta my place i use to do all kinds of different things on, but i spend my life, jury rigging things and also cobbling thing together to make it work, im excited to just buy factory made stuff and not have to mess with it or have it only work half assed. i very rarely buy stuff even if it can be made even if its cheap and easier and less time consuming to buy.

well i guess ill have to try that bullet as well, i have a few months before the barrel comes so ill try and get a box of them as well.

and thanks for the info on the bipod/trpod setups, I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet about that, i think i want to read a bit more and hopefully get out to the range next F-class shoot and watch the guys again and see how they are doing it, or at least hear/see the difference in both ways.

also i have to say a huge thanks to Jerry from Mystic Precision, he has held my hand the whole way and walked me though all of this, he knew more of what i need then i did and answered tonnes of questions and explained all the answers very well. hes a good guy, and is able to dumb it down for new people who don't know all the tools of the trade, my parts are coming from him.

and SND too for inviting me to the range to see how all of this happens, and again he answered all kinda of question, showed me his gear, and was most helpful through all of this.

im very happy i made this thread, it has turned out well for me, Thanks guys!!!

Evan, Tomorrow's practice is canceled in case you were thinking of coming out. Sunday's match will depend on weather, I can't make it to that either.
Send me your email sometime so I can send you updates direct until you become a club member and get the emails that go out to the members list.

Regarding scopes, reloading, etc, Peter at Hirsch Precision stocks quite a lot of options.

In other news, we'll do what we can to hopefully have E-targets at the range next year which would make it quite nice for everyone.
anyhow, back to work..
