I know very little about this rifle. I'm wondering what the MP on the receiver stands for. Looks like it has seen very little use. There is no bluing wear on the bolt knob and no marks on the feeding ramp. Looks like the butt stock was replaced because it has what looks to be orbital sanding marks on it. Has a MK III rear sight. Serial # on the bolt matches # on steel band above the trigger. Those are the only two #'s I see. How about an idea on value? Any help from you guys would be appreciated.

Long Branch Serial #

Serial number should be found on the left side of the butt socket. My 1943 Long Branch is numbered 34L2###. The MP COULD mean RCMP, or Military Police, but I will leave that for those more expert to tell you.

After posting, THEN I went to the sticky Canada-Milsurps Knowledge Library. Should have went there first. And no I wasn't teasing anyone. I just am not into the military guns. I guess I should be. Thanks for the responses. Mark

It's not wildly valuable, but is worth a premium over a standard Long Branch. A nice piece for sure and worth keeping. I've had several of them.

The books Arms and Accoutrements has a list of serial numbers, maybe someone can tell you if your number is in there. Not all of them are.

No No. 4s listed beginning with 22L14__ on the list in the Klancher book, but the book doesn't list all the serial numbers either.

Other posters are right about a premium being placed on MP-marked Long Branch rifles, more so if the s/n appears on the list. Value? They seem to run up from $500.
