A buddy i know has a luger that he wants to shoot but the whole upper barrel assembly moves about a quarter inch back and forth on the lower. To me it doesn't look right, looks like somebody put it together wrong.I don;t have any real experience with Lugers but i think it's put together wrong. If someone could help out and let me know if the whole upper is suupposed to move like that and if not what the problem might be i would be gratefull thanks.

go here:

and look at the animation.

If that's what you see (and i think thta is what you are seeing) then you are good to go, besides a full inspection by a gunsmith that is!

Does it move loosely, or against spring pressure? If loosely, it's likely that it's assembled incorrectly, and you'll have to take the upper off to re-assemble it properly.

This sounds exactly like the problem, good luck!

luger question

Yes it moves loosly,if you hold it in your hand you can take one finger and push the complete upper assembly a quarter of a inch back and forth.I know the upper reciprocates during firing but it should be under some tension before firing. Thanks for all the feedback guys i appreciate it.

It appears that the toggle is not connected properly (or at all) to the spring in the grip frame. That is where you get the tension. Take it apart and look where the two connect. (Looks like a " T " shape on the toggle, and 2 hooks on the spring in the frame). The T shape fits into the 2 hooks. If they are not connected, it will be loose like you describe.
