I am waiting for my FAC and in the mean time am researching what rimfire rifle to choose. I want a rifle that will last for many years and one that is good all round. I am leaning towards the CZ 453 varmit based only on internet info. Is there any suggestions out there?? I want to stay under 1500 with scope.

CZ all the way!

I just got my CZ american as my second .22 and it's good enough that I now have a favourite caliber.
Do a search in this forum, there are a few threads about the american vs. the varmint. I liked the american because of the classic styling, and the fact that a heavy barrel is pretty much unnecessary in this type of rifle, only 5 rounds bolt action, so it won't get hot, and the difference in accuracy will be negligable, especially given the weight difference if you will be lugging it around at all. The american has much nicer wood as well.
Either would be a great choice, as would the BRNO rifles, a bit more but apparently well worth it. Then get yourself a leupold scope or something similar with the money you save.

on the wholesalesports website they have the 452 and the 453 so they should be available in canada, or atleast through wholesale sports.

Well for a first rifle, I would suggest a Ruger 10/22.

Lots going for it, easy to use, very dependable, great learning rifle, lots of aftermarket stuff for it.

Nothing wrong with CZ .22's just that for a first rifle I would start with the Ruger. Very soft on the wallet and they are plenty accurate for a first time novice.

For about 400 dollars its yours , buy a nice little scope , and go have some fun. After some time, you will have a better feel for what you like and what you like to do.
