Help with No4 build please

Hi gents,

Restoring a No4 and having a problem with the Mk2 stock; the front stock band doesn't seem to fit, the stock is too fat and the band won't close around it. Are the front bands specific to Mk1's vs Mk2's, or do I just have a fat stock?

No4 bands are common between the Mk1 and Mk2's. You most likely have a Pakistani handguards and/or forend. In any event you will need to clean out the band groove to get a fit. Ron

Or sand the underside of the handguard or both.

Be careful, compare it to a complete rifle first. I had some LB forearms that were poorly assembled, the metal cap was indeed fitted incorrectly. Had to remove cap, remove some wood, and re-drill holes to get it to fit.
