Just got this Peddle scheme SSA mkIII*. I understand some of the markings but am curious about the "5" on the left side of the wrist also the "JN" on the rear of the reciever just above the SSA stamp. Any other info people want to throw in will be appreciated as well. Also, I understand the front sight ramp is aftermarket but can anyone ID it as well. thanks in advance

verry nice rifle the front site is original the ramp can be removed it was instaled by who ever sportered the rifle ,standard small arms no1mk 111 rifles are scarce and only account for 3% of all the no1mk111 rifles made.I think they were only made in 1916,17 and 18 they are often refered to as peddle scheme rifles but there are some more knowledgable peopl on here who can tell you more about it .Nice rifle to restore

Thanks Gord. Ya I was impressed with the condition when I got it. Its too bad it was drilled/tapped for scope mount and for that reason I was just going to keep it as is.
