I have an older model Savage 24P which needs some help. I got it firing again by fixing the mainspring plunger. Now I'd like it looking like new, or just nicer. The problem is the receiver appears to be bare metal. Inside the receiver, it looks like it was case hardened at one point, and I have seen these guns with a case hardened finish. Now the questions.
Is case hardening a finish or is it a way to harden the metal? Can a gunsmith refinish the receiver to look case-hardened again? Can anyone recommend a gunsmith?
I can make the wood look nice again, but I need help with this receiver. I can post photos if anyone wants to see it.
Thanks in advance.
