I have a Taurus PT1911; I have had it for 5 years now and it is a great gun. The only problem I have with it is the sights. The rear sight will drift on its own, and I have tightened the screw down a few times and even had the slide tapped by a gunsmith to make it a bit tighter. I was planning on buying a new set of sights for it figuring a new sight will have a larger interface which I can just file down ever so slightly a bit at a time until it is tight with no set screw needed.

Now here is the tricky part. Everywhere I look it advertizes these with a set of Heinie Straight 8 sights, but this one came, brand spanking new, with a set of Novak 3 dot sights on it. Does anyone know if I order a sight set for the Taurus PT1911 if I will have any problems with the rear sight interface because of this?

I don't know if anybody ever answered you, but ...

I don't own a PT1911 yet, but am looking for one now, so have done some research on upgrades, incl sights.

Looks like you CAN find plenty of sight options. The PT1911 is a SPECIFICS dovetail cut, so buy sights that are cut FOR the PT1911. I think truglow has sights made for the Taurus PT1911 dovetail cut. NOVAK sights DEFINITELY DOES have sights specific to the PT1911's. I think Trijicon also makes some for the PT1911 (night sights).

If you can't find them in Canada, call the Bronwells export desk phone # and I guess they can probably help you. Brownells carries the Novaks, and they were in stock the other day when I looked.

When you get the sights, if your gun & the sights are cut correctly at factory, they should NOT fit. The sights are cut oversized on purpose to fit those slides with oversized dovetails (like yours may be). You either have to take it to a gunsmith for fitting, or get a dovetail file (Again, brownells) and, very slowly / carefully open the cut to fit your sight. Check the Internet for instructions on this, there are several good armoured' sights that give you tips & instructions.

Good luck!
