I was at the range tonite and had a couple squib loads. I have about 80 more rounds from that loading session. Could I just weigh the cartridges to check for more or do I have to pull the loads???

Weight will give you a rough idea, but i would still be wondering if i'ts gonna squib.

If the powder charge is missing or low, you will need an accurate scale to be able to detect +/- 4 or 5 grains.

If you only have 80 rds that are questionable, I would either pull the bullets & collect powder....or fire them slowly and make sure that you don't fire the next rd after a squib.

On your next batch, go slow and make sure there is powder in each case. I had the same problem after I got a Dillon 650. I didn't take the time to look into each case. I was trying to maintain 500-600 rds per hr. Now...I'm happy with 300 rds per hour and 100% reliable reloads.

Just my $0.02

Pistol or rifle reloads?

I'd weigh them all and put the lower-than-normal-weights aside and then disassemble them for inspection and re-reloading.

Personally, I had only one squib in my first batch of reloads when I started and that was enough and tought me to check every single load visually even though I use progressive press. Lucky me I suffered little embarrasement when it happened during a match, being first shooter at first stage :) Lucky as the bullet got stuck so that it'd not allow next round to chamber, could have been a disaster.

squibs

I was trying a new load for my 9mm sig. I have loaded several thousands of loads without any issues. These were my first squibs. I will likely pull them since there are only a few, I was just being a bit lazy.

Thanks for all the suggestions. A lesson learned (as I sit here red-faced)

squibs

Well, after pulling what I had loaded discovered two more rounds with less than 1/2 the powder????

powder measure glitch????

squib loads are scary :( freaked me out enough to buy a powder check for my dillon 650. Because of this add-on, I'm much more confident in my loads.

Have a box of .45's that I screwed up on. Keep it marked and separate as a reminder to pay attention when I'm loading. Ok, that's my story. Truth is I'm too idle to pull 'em. That's the fix if you're short on brass. An intertial puller bashed on a rock will do it.
"...happened during a match..." Bulge your barrel too?

That was the other guy... It was totally Storm Lake's fault...

Pull them! Don't even get me started on squib loads. Thought I had identified the "bad batch" from my last squib problem and damned if I didn't get another one that got 95% of the way down the barrel (so pretty much impossible to push out using a brass rod). Of course it's a revolver (can't push it out from the other end) so MD Charlton gets more financial support - they're getting to know me too well :(

Will be erring on the side of more powder to make sure the damn thing comes out the other end. Anyone know who stocks a press-mounted bullet puller in .357? The inertial one is a PITA and upsets the dogs/wife...
