Hi nutters, not sure if I should of posted this in pistol thread or not, mods move it where it belongs. I know this Is going to be hard with out pics but this pistol is in really good shape, all original? dated 1943, serial 192###X, I know of one for sale and can get it for 800$ is this a fair deal? Would be a nice fit with the 1943 SA M1 garand I just picked up
Cheers

Make sure the frame serial matches the slide manufacturer, assure that it is the original finish, and that is has the correct wartime barrel. Good luck!

Joe, only the Colt M1911A1's had matching serial numbers on the frame and slide, and this practice was discontinued around serial number 1140000-1145000. Remington Rand never bothered putting serial numbers on the slide.

Patrick, make sure the serial number falls into the Remington Rand designated serial numbers. Your best bet is to post pictures, until you know a lot about these pistols it can be very hard to tell if it's original or not, I would ask the seller if he has any issues with you posting photos.

Certainly, $800 for a RR 1911A1, especially if it's an unmolested original, is a great price.
However, as the other guys sid, post some pics, and do a little research here, before you buy.

.... lot's of good info to start you off.

If the serial number is 192###x then it falls into the Remington Rand mfg serial number range. But my source makes the date of mfg as late 1944, not 1943.

If it's all original in nice shape then $800 would be a pretty good deal.

NAA.

Difficult to tell for me from the pics, NAA would know for certain, but should the Rand in this range have a greenish color finish (was it called a Duluth finish, if I recall correctly?). Looks almost like the slide is blued.
Make sure the barrel is either an High Standard or Colt marked barrel (HS or C).
I agree if unmessed with it is a great buy:) Good luck!

Hi. It's not 'all original'. The sights are civilian, the barrel may have had some accurizing work done to it, trigger has been changed and it looks like it has been cold blued.
It wasn't unusual for milsurp .45's to be modified for target/shooting game use. They were a lot cheaper 30 years ago. Still a good deal at $800. You'd best grab it.
The 'U.S. Property' stamp means it was a Lend/Lease pistol.

Good move. Personally I think a reblued with different sights is a $500 gun. I sold an original '44 RR a couple years ago with a General Shaver mag for $800 and it was by no means mint condition but it was all correct.
