Hi Folks. New here. Could you help me with value of my Dad's WW2 pistols?

Guns-Feb.jpg

First one is a Browning Mark 1. Has the Inglis stamp on it and is unfired.Bore is shiny bright. Condition is very good.
Second one is a Smith & Wesson 38. Bore is bright. Condition is good.Picture appears to have pitting but it does not.
Any help as to value would be appreciated. Thanks. Terry1

Dunno about the revolver, but that HiPower is worth at least 700 bucks, probably closer to 900 if it's truly unfired, and the decal is in nice shape(hard to tell from the pics)! In any case, nice guns!

Inglis

Agree with Ollie, same at our local shop is around $850, but things are more expensive here on Vancouver Island, closer to $700 out east. Had one myself in same shape with decal, sold to buddy for around $500 20 years ago.
Geoff in Victoria,BC.

I looked at these pistols, it's not .38 special.
Unfortunately the flash caught the S&W at the wrong angle and doesn't do it justice.
Cheers nessy.

I have seen a few .38/200 S&W M&Ps 5" in the $200 - $250 range.

Not sure what selling price was.

Not sure of you can get .38 S&W in bullet weights that correspond to the sights(200 gr round nose or 180 gr FMJ) . Have only seen 145 or 146 GRAIN round nose or FMJ.

Reloaders use , from what I have read, .357 swaged lead rounds. It has to be soft lead not cast as the bore is larger.

38 S&W ammo is a problem, no one is making 200grn .361 bullets.

I've just been reloading .357 145grn and it seems to work ok

Nice looking pistols, I myself am starting to look for an Inglis BHP for my collection. Perhaps later this spring, after I get my taxes back. :)

I don't think an unfired Inglis exists. Low mileage maybe, unissued maybe, but not unfired.

I think you are right. There are proof marks on the frame and the slide of any Inglis I have ever seen....to proof you must fire.

Only exception would be lunchbox specials or maybe some of the presentaion Inglis pistols.

The 200gr round nose was obsolete in 1939, replaced by the 178gr jacketed bullet. So no germans were harmed by the heavier bullet.

Even so, the 200gr was barely marginal in stopping power compared to the .455.
