I've got a CHOATE scope mount bolted to the receiver (not receiver cover) of my SKS and I am looking for a deflector shield to keep the casings from hitting my scope upon ejection. The Tasco one thats commonly found is only good with the receiver cover mounted scope mount. Does anyone know of one for the mount I've got??
Another solution I've been considering is either a VERY compact scope (although I doubt I can back it up enough on the mount to prevent it getting hit) or is there some way of mounting a scope to the gas tube or parts forward of the receiver?
Any help / suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks:

I picked up a Barsk scope that is purposefully made for SKS's. I've seen folks slag on them; but mine has been OK to me, but it's been mounted on my M/N 91 for 2-3 years now.
It's not as bright as a high end scope; but it works well for me. It's a 4 X 30 with a POSP style rangefinder.
Just a suggestion to try.

There is nothing like the use of a full size optic, for different conditions in my opinion. Check out the following mod, it is tried and proven...it works.

dont buy a shell deflector. Do the shell deflection mod by cutting out some metal on the ejection side. I've had great success with this mod on my rifle. You can read all about it in the SKS optics thread in the Red Rifles section of the site. Check it out... you'll save money and never have to worry about a shell hitting your scope.

A compact scope is a better way to go than a shell deflector.

The Leapers 4x32 Mini is only 7-3/4" long and allows the use of stripper clips. That's what I used.

I've also done the receiver mod and it works very well.

I'd put a longer and better scope on my rifle but then I wouldn't be able to use stripper clips. Because I primarily use the SKS as a plinker with Czech surplus I'll stick with my fixed power Leapers.

Thanks for the input. I see Cabelas sells them but only with the mount included which I don't need. Where did you get your's? And I'm not familiar with the mount of a Mosin, if it is mounted behind the receiver like on an SKS, are you sure the shells don't hit it?
Thanks

Where did you buy the Leapers mini? And are you sure the shells can't/don't hit the scope? I'd hate to crack the lens.
Thanks
