Henry .22 Lever Action unboxing

It's been a couple years since I've had a .22 and I like a lever so I figured at the boxing day sale I'd pick one up. Just got it today so I haven't shot it yet, but I'm really impressed with the fit and finish of this little gun.

I have one of these and I really like it. Nice and accurate and fun fun fun to shoot. Not to mention it will eat just about any 22 ammo you care to put in it.

I enjoyed shooting it so much I stepped up this year and bought myself a Henry Golden Boy. Much the same as the H001 but much nicer in both looks and operation (smooth as butter).

You are gonna have fun with this rifle!

I'm in the same boat. Haven't owned a .lever 22lr plinker in years but have the itch to buy one again. The Henry's I've owned were smoooooth as butter!
I see Henry is offering a few new models now and the QC apparently has gotten better.
Seems like more gun makers are making levers.....but it hard to beat the value of a Henry and their post sales support.
(No, I don't sell/work for Henry:))

Op....enjoy the new toy!

Very nice. I was recently shopping for a Henry. I shot a friend's in the summer time. We were shooting .22 shorts and it would just gobble them up without any issue.

I ended up finding a deal I couldnt pass up on a BL22 but i still feel like there is room for a Henry .22 in my safe. Maybe a Mares leg or magnum model for some variety.

Picked up a 22 and 17HMR this time last year.

The 22 was smooth as butter out of the box. Cycles anything and everything, fun little shooter for sure!

The 17HMR was not so smooth. Needed some disassembly and attention inside to smooth it out. Nothing serious, but certainly not expected based on all the praise from the Henry fans. Would be nice to be able to actually cycle the firearms in the store before purchasing, for this exact reason. But Cabelas won't allow it. Either way, I still have it. Cleaning it up myself was less hassle than driving back to the city to try to return/exchange it.

I just got back from Cabelas Barrie.
My son saw the H001L (16.5" Carbine with large loop) but they wouldn't allow me to cycle it. Anyway, I picked one with the best fit and finish and brought it home.
As expected, it cycles like butter! Cabelas has them on sale for $100 off until Jan 1/19.....

Yes the Golden Boy is a looker! My buddy has one but I get more of a chin weld on the GB. I prefer the fit of the other models when shouldered.

My biggest problem is deciding on the regular, or bigger loop. These are on sale right now, and I have had to talk myself out of taking the trip to pick one up.

I opted for the regular loop. Personally I've no need for all the extra open space in an area where contact needs to be made in order for it to function.

Agreed. But they don't make the shorter version with a regular loop. You can purchase a regular loop and add after though, which is always an option. I would like the "carbine" version for woods walking. Shorter usually ( but not always) makes for quicker and easier carrying etc.

My lever actions have all had the "regular" sized loop. They feel and work fine. However, from what I can remember my lever hand did feel a little cramped after cycling a couple hundred rounds. The BL was the worst for that.

I picked up the H001L (Carbine, large loop) for something different. I don't have x-large hands but with a pair of gloves(on those cool days) I think the large loop will shine.

Mark Mags....Cabelas sale is over Jan1. You still have time to get a great little Lever :)

OP....have you shot your Henry yet? We need a Range Report......

This is exactly what I did, changed to a regular loop after trying the rifle out. I wanted the shorter rifle, but I didn't care much for the large loop. Large loops feel sloppy to me when cycling a lever bare handed.

I also don't exactly have small hands, and I can still use the regular loop with a decent pair of gloves. Just not so much with bulky winter gloves.

Put 40 rounds of CB shorts through mine today. It was cold so I would just put 20 rounds in the magazine each time I loaded it rather than making sure I was squeezing every possible round in there, but standing, shooting off hand it shot a fist sized group at 20 yards with me not really doing my part. I did somehow manage to chip the finish on the received, but it's just a replaceable receiver cover so I'm not terribly fussed about it.

Happy with it so far.

Given how much fun these are, perhaps look at the Henry Big Boy in 357. Great fun and very accurate. Unfortunately, it leads to re-loading and all the things that go with it. But not rim-fire.
