Hey all,

I recently bought a Henry Arms AR-7 U.S. Survival Rifle. It does not seem to like my cheap American Eagle 40 gr. high velocity ammo.

Any advice, from AR-7 owners, on what ammo feeds best in this gun?

I think the key is not the ammo but a well lubricated ar-7.

I ran a test of all the 22 ammo I have and they all worked well with no jams.

my prefered 22 ammo for all guns is Winchester Super X H.P. they just rock.

when lubing up your gun do not use cheap oil, use something that is thin and will stay on without mucking up for action.
I hope this helps.

Stingers.

Takes a while for them to break in. Recoil isn't strong enough to cycle normal ammo yet. It'll be fine after it's used a bit.

I just tried a bunch of ammo through the AR7: Stingers, MiniMags, Federal Game-Shok and Reminton Golden Bullets. For me, CCI Minimag works best - no jams yet. Stingers very rarely jam, and Remington 'Game Load' Golden Bullets and Blazers function well and are cheap alternatives. I have found that federal "game shok" failed to extract pretty much every time in the Henry, and were also useless in a couple of my other guns.

The correct magazines are key too.

There have been many different AR-7 manufacturers. While, at a glance, all AR-7 magazines look alike and 'will-fit', Henry magazines are not the same as magazines from other AR-7 manufacturers. On close comparative examination you can detect the differences. Armalite rifles, for example, feed best with Armalite magazines and Henry rifles feed best with Henry magazines.
