I've been looking into a lever gun and came across the AR-7 on henry's website and thought it looked really cool. Not overly practical but kinda fun. Where can i but one in canada/are they availabel in canada? And I would hope they would be non restricted, but knowing the RCMP guys are they restricted and therefore not even usueful for a camping gun?

I've heard mixed revues, soem people say they work wonderfully and others say they are complete POS. I want one either way, but if you've used one I'd be happy to hear your reviews as well..

thanks guys!

I bought one on the EE about a yr ago just like new in the box for $175. Keep an eye out in the rimfire section. Pretty sure most sporting stores can get it for you, try Elwood Epps website. You're right it's non-restricted and a nice little plinker.

sweeet thats what i was hoping to hear. I'll check out my local WSS and see what they can do for me. and put an ad up on the EE for one in the meantime thanks!

my great uncle has one it is pretty cool. He talks about this time they tipped their canoe and he had to swim after the rifle as it floated down the river hahaha. It also does not shoot that bad.

Heck. This is probably somewhere in the liks above, twice at least.

I thought the Charter Arms AR-7 was about the coolest thing going.

First gun I ever bought, scrimped and saved and made payments on it all summer to buy it.

Sold it the next spring. Took a loss, and was glad to be done with it.

I found mine to not shoot worth a damn. The barrel would rarely put two rounds in the same general direction, and leaded badly, then re-leaded after being cleaned out.

To it's plus, it fed and shot anything from Stingers to the gas station grade Mexican crap that was 60 cents a box, FTF's of those, not counted against the gun.

As a carry gun, the release lever for the mag was subject to releasing the mag at about the slightest touch, but the mag would not drop free, instead, it would slowly work it's way loose and drop while it was being carried. I backtracked around the farm a lot, looking for my mag. Get a spare! There is no room for a spare mag IIRC and definitely no room to pack ammo, in the butt storage, a real failure of the design, IMO.
The stock is bulky and feels like Tupperware. Not modern black rifle Tupperware, kitchen Tupperware.

No real means to attach a sling, without interfering with the ability to pack it away. You can tie stuff on, or velcro it, then wrap the sling around the stock to stow...

A Marlin Papoose would be my choice for a compact take-down gun these days for canoing. I'd see to making a orange or red soft case with some lifejacket flotation, if I really needed it to float. Tether the case to the rifle with a strap that would double as a sling. Maybe.

Try one out though. I learned a lot about firearms from that one. I learned to do my homework first.

Cheers

I have one love it. It don't float like they say it does though. Not very accurate but a fun plinker. Use hi velocity ammo. Bulk pack stuff don't work to well
