Has anyone got one of these that they've dressed up a little? I am in the market for a .22, and a 10/22 looks like the right option for me, BUT, the little AR7 has piqued my interest too. Doesnt it look like it could be made into a mini tommy gun with some custom furniture? Can bigger mags be had for it too? What do you think?

Dress up a 10/22

I think dressing up a 10/22 would be better, because of the box like receiver.
I still have a new 50 round drum for a 10/22 from Eaton Supply (Sanford 50) and it is in the box it came in in 1984. Never used it and probably never will. It would look great in a Thompson style conversion. Would have to paint it black or something like that. It came from SIR in 1984 and I haven't run across any since then. Anyone ever use one?

I've seen a tricked out AR-7 and yes it does look nifty. The one I saw had a big mag on, probably 30 rounds or so. Wire stock, barrel shroud and a red dot on it. That was a year ago at a gun show.

Henry Survival

I had one but after a couple of years of unsatisfactory performance I sold it. Mine had a really heavy trigger and it is so light that I found it hard to shoot accurately. If I really concentrated off a solid sandbag rest it was ok. I think the gun was accurate enough but with the light weight and heavy trigger made it impossible to shoot under normal hunting conditions. I used it for a pack rifle and made a custom stock that although it had a short length of pull balanced the little gun a lot better than the bulky plastic stock. I swithched to a CZ Scout and it is infitely more satisfactory. I still have the custom stock if that interests you. Just my 2c worth

The AR7 is a great rifle to stash in the back of your car if you live in the middle of nowhere for survival if you get stranded. It's light, and everything packs into the buttstock, which will float.

That said, it was never really intended to be a use-it-all-the-time type rifle. The carbon fibre sheathed factory barrel should be a dead giveaway there. IMO, if you start piling stuff on top of it, you lose the only advantage it has, and it really does become a piece of crap.

If you want a plinker to dress up, get a 10/22.
