Henry H006MR (357 MAG 16” Barrel) First Impression

This model with a 16 inch barrel is not available in Canada so I purchased the gun through Irunguns in October and received it in November. BTW: I got very good service from Irunguns.

The gun is heavier than I expected. My Winchester Trapper 357 is just over 6lbs and the Henry with the same overall length is an even 8lbs. The weight absorbs the 357 recoil so well, it makes it look like I am shooting 22LR.

I went on to try 4 different kind of 357: my 158 Gr. reloads, 158 Gr. Blazer Aluminum, 125 Gr. Remington and 158 Gr. Gold Dot.

and 3 different kind of 38: Winchester 130 Gr., Wolf 158 gr. and my 158 Gr.reloads.

The gun really shines when it come to firing 357: all rounds feed very well and extracted about 2 feet from me. No issues at all. Even the aluminum brass the owner manual warns about worked very well.

Now, one thing the user manual is right about is the gun does not feed 38 very well. I still need to tinker with my reloads to see if I can get them to a length - as recommended in the manual - that would be acceptable but at this time no luck. It extracts the 38 cases and ejects them far enough so I don’t step on them. In the upcoming weeks I will be trying out the same gun in the steel model (H012MR) and see if it takes the 38 better.

Anyone else with a similar experience, please share.

Great looking carbine!! I'm curious if it will hold 10 .357mag length rounds in the tube? I recently bought a Marlin 1894cs that had to be modified to hold 10 for cowboy shooting. The work was completed by the Rusty Wood shop and done by the previous owner.

This version with the 16 inch barrel holds 7 rounds of 357 and 8 rounds of 38. The full size 20 inch barrel holds 10 rounds.
