Henry lever .22 standard model.

Hi all

Picked a Henry lever standard model up this week. Had one jam on a short round due to a small burr and nothing else. Super sweet little shooter and a very fun gun.

One thing I did notice is that the front stock has the smallest amount of play in it. So I'm slightly disappointed in that but the wood quality and fit of the shoulder stock is as good as one would expect.

I've got some shooting to do with this sweet little stinger that is for sure!

Any recommendations on care or tweeks specific to these guns?

Let me know if you have one how you found the front stock and if you had the same issue.

I have to admit I've been wanting one for a while and I'm pretty excited to have one in the safe :). Based on this I'm totally going to track down a mares leg. I have an sks and 1400 rounds for a local trade lol :)

The top of the receiver has a full length dovetail. SO with the right rings you can easily fit it with a scope.

I've shot my own H001 at my clubs indoor 20 yard range. From prone I can manage to do 6 to 8 shot pairs of 1/2 inch or less spacing with the rest averaging from 5/8 to 1 inch. So this is more a measure of me than the rifle. Oddly enough I manage much the same performance when shooting a high class target rimfire rifle. Now I'm not saying that I get match grade results. But clearly it's me that is the limit rather than the rifle.


My rifle's fore stock has a very slight amount of play as well. It's never bothered me so I've never done anything to fix it.
 
I haven't tried shooting any groups with mine. Just plinking at steel targets and pop cans. Pretty easy to hit a pop can at 100 yards offhand with just the irons. I'm happy with that.
 
Barrel band is tight and well. I will try a little paper under it. Good suggestion on the rubber too. Your receiver is that polished? That's a neat idea to keep in mind if it gets some abuse!

My hand guard was a tad loose. I just tightened up the barrel band and its been fine.

Just picked one up from C.T. Went back the next day and picked up a scope for it with the $50 gift card for spending over $200. The one I handled from the display case had quite a bit of play in the fore end stock. Made sure the one I picked out was tight. Now just have to find bases and rings. Can't wait to shoot it.
 
I've got the Henry in 17 hmr and it also had the looseness when I got it as well as a loose front sight . Easily fixed , it is a great little rifle and awesome gopher slayer .
 
Put an entire box of Winchester 333 through it today. Irons sites at 30 yards popping chunks of sidewalk chalk. Shot an old full stock mossberg semi and a 243 scoped. Beautiful day out there and more fun than I have had shooting in while. That Henry operated flawlessly not a single miss feed miss fire or dud round. A mares leg is now on my short list for certain. In fact I may buy every model in every caliber over the next few years. What a sweetheart of a rifle.

You won't regret it. Something about the lever guns just makes shooting fun. And when they are as smooth and accurate as these seem to be its money well spent. And if it's just not your thing I don't think they last long at all on the EE. I was so happy with my 10/22 and so surprised by it's out of box accuracy with decent ammo. I was sure I had found the right thing. They are great. But iron site lever gun shooting well damn that should be an Olympic sport lol.
 
my dad picked up one of these for his camp gun and he brought it up last week to show me.
i currently only have a 30/30 in lever and have only shot a 22 on rare occasions (in lever)

so i will admit im pretty much a virgin when it comes to 22 levers.
but wow was i impressed with this gun!
cycled nice and once i got the hang of it i had the metal plate ringing like a cow bell at a Blue Oyster Cult concert!

i asked him why he got the plane jane model and not the golden boy or heavy barrel one and he said he wanted it nice and light.
and id have to agree with his choice, beauty gun and a real nice price on it too.

while im a 10/22 fan boy i could easily put one of these in my collection.
 
The plastic front site is solid and reliable. There are aftermarket sites available I am finding out. But to be honest I was having no issues whatsoever with the factory sites and when things started going wrong it was because my eyes were getting tired. Took a couple of hundred rounds and 4 hours to get there though.
