I can't help but notice all the praise for Henry's lever guns, as well as their great customer service (according to the other thread), but every time I look at one, I can't get over the painted bits. I also don't fancy the gold or brass coloured units....

Do they, or have they, made any 22LR lever guns with all blued parts? If they don't, perhaps someone can provide some input on whether or not they use any funky alloys that won't take bluing?

I just picked one up from Wholesale Sports, on sale for $330,never had a lever before but I hear the action is buttery smooth.Looks good, but why they put a plastic barrel ring on it,I don't know...even Norinco does better than that..

I wasn't overly impressed with the one I had. It was beautiful to look at and handle but accuracy was mediocre at best.

I should have looked into it closer before purchasing. After I got it and before taking it out or having a close look at it, a friend informed me about the steel cover over an aluminum receiver. That didn't really bother me but I should have done more due diligence. I mounted a scope and had a heck of a time getting things lined up because of that steel sleeve. Once it all finally came together, I couldn't find any ammo it liked.

I sold the rifle at the last Victoria show, about a month after purchasing it. I was happy to see it gone. I sold it for less than the OPs rifle and it had less than 200 rounds through it. Still looked new. The fellow that bought it was surprised it was so cheap and I told him it was used but thoroughly cleaned and also about how well it shot. He either didn't believe me or didn't care. He gave me the money and scrambled away with a big grin on his face. Go figure.

So the receivers are aluminium?

I wouldn't be able to live with a steel sleeve over it either.

This might be the death of my desire to buy one of their rimfires......

I have read a lot of great things as well, but I think I would have to go for a Winchester myself.
It drives me up the wall knowing my 10/22 receiver is not made of steel.

Plastic Barrel Band? All mine have been, and are metal.

Interesting thread,
I’ve owned a few 94/22’s and at least 6 39a’s. If I found another for the price of new Henry, I’d happily buy the Henry before another of the others.

No complaints here.

I'm probably just going to bite the bullet and try one out. I see some boxing day pricing coming up, and it's not like they are super expensive in the first place.

There are so many good reviews on Henry rimfires that they are hard to ignore.

I've had an amazing experience with my Henry rimfires, and my big boy. Regardless of what the receivers are made of in the rimfires they seem very durable. I see no obvious signs of wear after about 9000 rounds between the two I have owned for a few years. The big boy is so much fun I have to stop myself from taking it to the range when I'm heading out.

I have the Frontier H001T in .22LR and the Big Boy Steel H012M in .357mag, I'm not fond of the brass looks either and the steel receiver is lighter, too. :d

Don't worry about the metal in the .22's receiver: it's an alloy called Zamak5, plenty strong for the purpose. There's reports of owners with tens of thousands of rounds through their Henry.

The thing that bugs me most is the painted receiver, or is it just a cover over the receiver? (I'm not fully aware of how they are constructed) Too bad they didn't just use blued steel to match the barrel and mag tube. If the cover is steel, and can be blued, I would just deal with it myself once I got a rifle.

There ain't nothing wrong with a Henry when it leaves the factory... I have had a couple dozen and they all lived up to and exceeded my expectations... if you want to mess around with them, knock yourself out, but it is surely not necessary. There may be a few bad ones out there, every manufacturer has them, even at a price point several thousand dollars higher, but I have never experienced one. They are generally not overly fussy about ammo, and accuracy is excellent. The zamac receivers are NO big deal... just reserve judgment until you buy it and shoot it... until then your just another Henry fan waiting in the wings...

P.S - my 94's, 39's and BL's rarely see the light of day anymore.

To bad they weren't steel so they could be case colored. I wonder if a talented painter could paint on to look as if it's case colored? It's painted already lol

I have a Classic model and it has no plastic parts . Initially , I thought the barrel band was plastic but it is not . It is magnetic . I have had zero issues . Fantastic rifle in every regard . Looks great , shoots great and the action is super smooth . I would have zero issue buying another .

Remember the Remington Nylon 66, those guns are still plugging away and are very cherished even though they are made of “plastic” for lack of a better term

I have an H001 and a mares leg in 22. Both have the smoothest levers I have shot.

Accuracy is a matter of finding the right ammo and practise.

And both of mine do the job. Failure is me not the guns.

And my 66 from the 70's is still going strong.

It's painted in the same sense as your car's body is painted: powder coated and baked in. Nothing to worry about unless you plan to use it as a sledgehammer. :)
