I currently have a Henry Mini Bolt that my 7 year old son shoots. I want to scope the rifle, but am not to thrilled with the scope mounting system on the Henry. Otherwise I really like the Henry. So, I'm thinking of selling it and picking up a Cricket instead.

Has anyone used a scope on the Cricket and has anyone been able to compare the Henry with the Cricket and what are your thoughts?

I don't know how big your son is, but the Crickets are pretty small in my opinion. I started my daughters off with a Marlin .22 youth model (forget what the model number is, but it's a single shot as well). They're smaller statured girls, and my oldest started shooting it when I first bought it as a kindergarten "graduation" present... It's grooved for standard .22 rings, so scope mounting isn't a problem. It also comes (or at least it came) in two versions - blued and stainless... Hth's...

hsld.

You can get a savage cub for about 230 bucks from epps. i just got one for my son for his 6th birthday. They have a dovetail mounted peep for a rear sight, but are drilled and tapped for scope mounts. i think it was 10 bucks for the two scope bases. Just a heads up to anyone else that might be in the same boat :) I think any cz would put a savage to shame, but it's in a whole different price bracket :)
