Henry Repeating Arms .22 lever action

Does anyone own, or have used, a Henry Repeating Arms .22 lever action? I was looking at them on-line and they look very nice but was curious on how they shoot. They are less expensive then Browning/Winchester @ about $255.00 for the standard .22LR and $355 for the .22LR with the octagon bbl - from SIR. Now the Golden Boy looks very nice with the brass receiver but a little much for $490.

Just curious if anyone has any opinion on these?

I looked at the golden boy they had at wholesale. The action is extremely smooth, and the gun is so pretty it makes me think naughty thoughts. It feels a lot better than any USRAC .22 I've ever tried, and that's saying a lot. I really want one, but it's hard to come to terms with the price tag.
 
I brought one at chrismas, nice gun, really smooth action, accuracy is pretty good, the h001 have only one big trouble but is a big one the sight is one of the worst I never see on a rifle, the front post is a big rectangular plastic piece and is molded with the front barrel band, have no possibility to change it for a ramp, Henry sold a metal front sight but I ordered one before christmas They take 40$ on my credit card but I never receive the part when I call back they just say to me is not theyr problem if I never receive my part and they telled me just make a other order and pay again. I never buy Henry product again.

I had put a williams receiver peep sight on it because I hate the big square hole back sight, for now is just good to use for plinking, before I brought this gun I shipped a e-mail to the Henry president to make sure is possible to put a globe sight at the front, he tell me that possible, bull #### anyway the us gunmaker never care about canadian customer.
 
Funny that this thread started today.

I was visiting P&D at lunch and walked out with a Henry Leveraction .22. Hopefully its a good value for the money.

They also had one of the Henry lever actions in .17hmr which had nice wood on it and very nice fiber optic sights, I hope I can find those sights to add to mine.

Good luck if you buyed a H001 (the regular one) nothing fit a the front of this gun except the original cheap plastic part and the metal one Henry sold but never delevery at Canadian adress. I know thats 4 month i loose money with henry and I go to see all gunsmith arrow ottawa.

I brought this gun for to use with open sight like cowboy action shooting, i have a savage Mark II bv with a 6X18X50 ao scope ( a real tack diver) , I have a SQ m-16 with a red dot, a ruger 10/22 with tactical scope, laser and flash lite. I brougt the henry to use a open sight I putted a williams receiver peep sight on the back but the big plastic post at the front is really innacurate. The receiver have grouve for scope but I dont need a other scoped rifle I want this one for to play cowboy.:(
 
They are an excellent shooter, extremely smooth action, terrible front sight design (big chunk of plastic) not deserving of the firearm. Had my gunsmith make a metal front barrel band & front sight. Now it looks like it should have from the factory.
 
I'd get the model H001T. It's got an octagon barrel with better sights but doesn't have the ugly gold receiver of the golden boy:)
The big boy in .357 looks nice but I'm not a fan of the shinny brass look, maybe it could be bead blasted or brushed.

cost me $65.00. He machined a barrel band, blued it, installed, dovetailed barrel & installed sight, parts & labour. Did a terrific job. I was real dissapointed when I first ordered the Henry (got through mail order so didn't know it had that ugly chunk of plastic on it.) My son & daughter shoot Cowboy Action with it, & it's a sweet little gun.

I bought one a few years ago, a great gun except for the sight, I called henry's boss and he shipped me a new metal band and sight for free the next day, I sold my two winchester levers after I got my henry, super gun and great service

you just canrt beat that !!!!!!!

+1 I love mine, but the front sight is quite huge. But I don't mind as I threw a scope on it after the first 2 boxes of ammo. Very decent gun for the price.
 
never shot one, I handled a cheap one a few years ago, a few plastic parts and kinds cheapish.

Now the Golden boy seems like a real nice gun, working the action is like choice wet pussy... just so soft and smooth.

Pardon my vulgar choice of words but that is exactly what I thought of when I handled it.

I have owned a Browning and a Winchester and I must say, I like this Henry Golden Boy.

They are cheap, that's one of the great things about them.

The Golden Boy has the exact same action as the other Henrys, and yes it is soooooooooo smooth. :) This is due, in part, to the nylon components in the action. These guns are very inexpensive compared to the other lever action .22's on the market and you really do get way more gun than you pay for, IMHO. It's not really fair to try and hold a $270 gun to the same standard as a $700 gun.

I like the way the guy at Russell's put it when I bought mine: "This may not be the gun that you can hand down to your grandchildren and your grandchildren's grandchildren, but it will certainly last your lifetime and then a bit."
 
The salesman acutualy told you it had nylon parts inside?

And that it would last you a lifetime! Not long enough to be handed down,but your lifetime!

What did he have to say about Winchesters(mod 1890) or Savage mod 29's,or Marlins mod 39?

With no nylon all steel think they might be good prospects?

Think if you asked these questions he would have been quite so smug about his answers?

Cheap gets real expensive down the line!

Henry is good as an entry rifle(like a charles Daily is a good 1911)!

Sorry, I didn't realize you were at the counter that day or I would have said hello. Did I say anywhere that the sales guy was smug? I'll say it again, show me another lever action .22 at the same price as the Henry that is anywhere near as nice a gun. I don't think anyone ever tried to compare it to a Savage or a Marlin. The bottom line is that it is a great gun for the money. Sure the all steel guns will last several lifetimes, but the Henry is cheap, shoots straighta and is durable enough to last me for at least 10 or 20 years of gopher shooting.

Actually, it looks like your comments indicate that you agree that the Henry is a nice rifle for the price.... So I guess we are singing the same song. :)
