So I picked up a used Henry AR7 Survival rifle last week. I remember looking at them when Henry re-introduced it about 5 years ago and upon handling it in a store I was unimpressed by the large plastic stock...... but for some reason I've always been drawn to the design of the AR7. When I saw one on the E.E. I decided to jump in and just accept it for what it is..... a compact,self stowing little semi auto .22lr.
The one thing I noticed when it arrived was that the front sight seemed a bit canted... upon closer examination it appears that the orange plastic blade was mishapen and leaning to one side. I had read complaints online about the orange plastic blades being somewhat of a loose fit and requiring some glue to lock it in place once set for windage. My plan all along was to try and replace the orange blade with a bead or firesight and so today I dug around in the parts bin and found a suitable williams fire-sight.
Now I don't know what sort of dovetail Henry uses on the survival but it was not compatible with the Williams and it took me just over an hour to file the Williams to fit the Henry dovetail...... Pretty stoked on the results! It''s a bit lower then the stock sight which I think will work out pretty good as it seemed to shoot a bit high from my limited short range testing.
Here's what it looks like and a 5 shot group of CCI quiets at 16feet. Looking forward to taking testing it with different .22lr and sighting it in at 25-50yards.
