Remember the British SAS regime: Gun, gear, then yourself.

P.S. The British aren't above calling a rifle a "gun". It takes an American Marine to be that @n@l...;)

I buffed the internals on my AR-7 and use hotter rds...not perfect but accurate and fits the bill.

If not for you try a GEVARM take down model. Beautiful little gun.

Pie1, I run into both the Winchester and (not so often) the Marlin and they are pretty much interchangable as far as durablilty goes. I would put a wanted ad in the EE or if you are fortunate and have an active group like the HACS (Heritage Arms Collector Society) in your hood then they put on a gun show about every month. Here in Vancouver there is one almost every month and today and yesterday were one of the 2-day events. If you live in the interior then you might plan to go to the Kamloops show in April. 3 huge buildings full of guns and knives or "wanna buy a tank mister?". They usually have a website so have a look online to see if there is one active. The Winnie comes in at least 2 models of 1906-the takedown and the not takedown. The Marlins are all takedown and can be cleaned just by taking it down and running a rod thru the chamber. The Winnies you can do that with the takedown but not the solid one. If you are not in BC then check the sites and see if anything else is going on. The wanted ad here and HuntingBC should get some results quickly though. Make sure the barrel is still good though for the Winnies-some are quite old and may need new barrel. Dont worry about the actions though-pretty much bulletproof.

who remembers their cleaning kit on a camping trip....i can barely remember the tents, food, sleeping bags...ect i suppose you are more set up than I.

I dunno... a pull through, a few patches, the swiss army knife, some clp or similar? Fits in a case with any of the firearms, or in a shirt pocket.

I am NOT SAS, nor have I ever even played the role of one for TV, but I do find it difficult to sleep if I have a dirty firearm (no - really!), as a result of early exposure to military culture.

I am getting better.... 15 years later, I can ALMOST let the family enter a shopping mall without planning primary and secondary ###.

Wouldn't the Ar-7 make a wicked STEN .22? Needs a dummy mag.

Alberta, but tell more of the tank....:D

Im thinking I like the marlin 39A...anyone got pics of one once its taken down for the pack? And length measurements would be great(in taken down form)

If you dont get any pics, go to the Marlin site and download the owners manual. They are all free on that site. There are line drawings of the gun apart. Think Im gonna look for one too sometime soon. Had one and sold it and my 1022 to buy my CZ452 leftie. Not sure if they were joking but there was a tank there and sounded like they were trying to sell it-Ford v8 in the damn thing. If I had a big chunk of land man...:)

I believe Gun Test magazine said the Henry and the AR7 don't float they just sink slower, just enough time to grab at once or twice.

i've had several ar-7s that i've picked up over the years and have been happy with them. they are a bit finicky with bullet selection but that just means you get to shot more when you're trying to figure out which ammo best suits the gun. it's not a high end target gun/tack driver but it's fun to shoot, is very durable, and a good gun to let the kids try (with supervision). i've had my current ar-7 for about 10 years now and have always taken it camping/kayaking and don't have any complaints.
