This little gem is the one I’ll never let go. I sourced this from my hometown area in NS 10 years ago when I was in Calgary. I have a real soft spot for these early derringer style pocket pistols and love the backstory behind it. It came from an old family collection in which it sat since it was purchased in the 1850s. Henry van Wart was a businessman who owned a company that exported hardware and firearms to North America out of Birmingham. Below is a little excerpt on him.
Accompanying the pistol in this picture is one of my copies of a Micheal Price San Francisco Bowie, l’m a full time historical arms maker.
The leather bound book is from 1804 I collect rare books as well.
Henry van Wart (1784 - 1873), an American who became British by special act of Parliament, founded the Birmingham Stock Exchange and served as one of Birmingham's first aldermen and a director of the Birmingham Banking Company.
