I bought a variety a pellets recently just to try different types. The heaviest ones I could find for .177 spring/piston rifles are the JSB Exact Beast Diabolo at 16.2gr. The H&N Baracuda Magnum are a little heavier at 16.36gr but I think they are better suited for PCP rifles. The lightest ones I found are the Skenco PolyRhino at 3.4gr! They say it's made out of 40% metal.

Dont shoot either in my opinion, you will break your spring, the lightest to heaviest for a springer is 6.9gr to 12gr. Anyone else care to chime in?
I'd say it depends on the springer but sounds about right... I messed about making a springer simulator once in Excel. It showed that if the pellet was too heavy the piston would bounce and the efficiency would fall off. It would also put a nasty reverse pulse into the spring which is likely the reason heavy pellets break springs. Heavy magnums work better with heavier pellets- but I'd agree that 10-11gn is likely on the heavy side for .177 non-magnum springers. Nitro-springs probably don't have this issue- but I have no experience how well the ultra-heavies work in those. NP should be more reliable as even if a heavy pellet makes a piston bounce the gas spring really doesn't care...
One thing for sure- I would never try that 3.4gn in anything but a <495fps gun. A pellet that light will be really hard on the power plant, exceed the sound barrier and do it's best shotgun impression wrto accuracy... but let us know how it turns out if you try it!

I bought a single shot break action springer off the EE. It arrived with one can of those SUPER heavy pellets & it shot them terrible!
I switched to a good quality target pellet & it groups quite well with them!
Not saying there won't be an air rifle that likes the heavy pellets, but I'll stick to the quality regular weight pellets.

I'm only a fan of accurate pellets and after trying out scores of different brands and weights I have settled on Crosman Premiers 12 grain Sillouette pellets as being my all time favorite for my HW80.They were made from the same Die[per box] and the number of the Die is stamped on the side of the 1250 rnd box.Purchased a lot of them and am glad, because they are now discontinued.

I believe that I broke the spring in my D54 trying some super light alloy junk, new spring from DL fixed it, easy too with a compressor, never again. Cept my pumpers =)!
