Here is hoping for a XCR-M

I have been reviewing and comparing "main battle rifles" for a while now and have established that my money would probably be well spent on an XCR if and when they become available again. I know a few people have them or have experience with them and wanted to gather opinions. I chose .308 as my caliber so it seemed like the sensible choice for a non-bulpup rifle. What do you all think?

Thank you for your input,

I found the XCR-M to be obnoxiously front heavy, the L not so much. If you have your heart set on .308 a Stag 10 or Troy 102 might be a better choice.

Im intrigued by the Troy 102. Just watched the review of it on the Shooting Edge YT channel. I guess it might come down to price since both rifles weight the same and offer comparable performance. However, I must say I prefer the look of the XCR.

For the XCR? Thats disappointing to read. Might just go with a Stag 10 then.
I have owned both the XCR in 7.63x39 and the M in 308. Both were sold off long ago due to the weight issue as they were bought as hunting rifles. I never had an issue with either, but I did take out the barrel screw and re installed it properly mainly for piece of mind and they performed 100% after that (wish I would have kept the 308). I do remember though at a CQB match long ago seeing one in 39 spit the barrel out of the hand guard . We told this fool many times to check the screw, but he knew better LOL.

Yeah. Stag 10 it is.

The Colt LE-901is the most accurate .308 gas gun that I have ever owned and used. If you can import one when we get our rights back, it is worth the effort - ask me how I know! Failing that, the Stag 10 in 6.5 CM would be my choice....

Nice rig Mark. I was looking at this in 2016, the colt store in abbotsford BC was promoting a pkg deal, 308 complete with a 6920 556 upper. I just couldnt do it at the time comfortably and of course regret after the fact.

Thanks! I mentioned the LE-901 specifically because it consistently delivers sub-MOA accuracy using Federal Gold Medal Match .308 175gr ammo, yet does so with excellent reliability in a reasonably handy package. It is no lightweight with the Pic rails on that Monlothic, Free-Float Upper Receiver, but with a bit of weight comes stability. The rifle is still in the league of other Battle Rifles such as the FN FAL and HK G3 when it comes to their increased weight over their 5.56mm kin. Of course, being much more modern and modular, the LE-901 features many ergonomicc and operator efficiency improvements such as a Right Side Bolt Release, an Ambidextrous Magazine Release, and so on.

It is the accuracy that sets the LE-901 apart from the rest of the Battle Rifle crowd. This is precisely why the Canadian Armed Forces adopted the LE-901 (with an MLOK Handguard, a tan paint job and a PRS Buttstock) as the Army's new Short-Range, Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle designated the C20. To my knowledge Colt Canada didn't have to change much to produce a reliable, sub-MOA gas gun, as that is how the LE-901s perform right out of the box....

That Colt Store in abbotsford is run by Adler, the same guy running the RSQ1/EAGLE/Defence Ballistics non restricted but actually prohibited rifle scam. there lots of posts here and over reddit about people not receiving rifles, having small claims lawsuits and CC fraud claims against them. RCMP was also involved at one point and their physical store has now been relocated. Adler and his sons also have a dozen fake accounts here that you will see posting about it positively (the only accounts that actually say anything positive about them). The rifles were made, I have handled the rifles in person at his old location, they are Macabbee SLR knockoffs with his branding on the side, for which he also has an active lawsuit

Nothing against colt in general, but you saved yourself a lot of hassle not dealing with them.

There were reports of a version being built by Colt Canada before the OIC dropped. I hope we can get a canadian made gun...

Wow, was not aware. I did talk to an older fella on the phone, was trying to get information and price points. He assured me it was all on sight... you had to book an appointment before you showed up at the store.

What about the ATRS Modern Hunter Mark? Or doesn’t it count because it’s definitely NOT a battle rifle. Just curious how it stacks up against these, and I figured you’d be the guy that would know.
