As you wander the fields in search of whatever, how do you carry your ammo? I use a fanny pack, but it doesn't work so well. While I can carry 500 rounds at a time, if I don't get it completely zipped up, ammo dumps if I go prone or bend over. What are you folks using?

I keep 3 loaded 25 round mags on me, one in the rifle, 2 in the pocket of my jacket, zipped up. The rest I leave in their plastic or cardboard boxes and stuff em in my cargo pockets, or jacket pockets. The wonderfull thing about 22LR is the volume of ammo you can stuff in a jacket.

:D

A nice dry 500ml water bottle does nice
Or fill up one of those plastic canteens with the belt strap
I use the canteen and an AK mag pouch for mine

A ziplock bag will even do the trick

I've got an army pouch of some sorts with a shoulder strap. Easily holds 800 rounds of 22, about 400 of 17HMR (in the boxes) Top is held closed by a simple loop system. Works like a damn.

When on a gopher shoot, I carry .22 shells and magazines in a old WWII army bag that has a shoulder strap. My dear old WWII vet neighbor gave it to me when I was in my early teens. That was about 47 or 48 years ago. It isn't the most comfortable nor the handiest bag, but I figure if my old neighbor could carry it and a pile of other stuff during a war, then I could likely carry it for a while when out having fun. I carry the thing more out of rememberance and gratitude, as well as respect than for its beauty. :p:p

I don't wander with my .22 too often, I used to take a handful in my pocket and a 50 rd box in my other pocket.

Funny thing though, I remember I used to take my Browning .22 semi often but I almost forgot how to unload the gun as I was so used to pounding a mag worth into the ground or something as I was leaving for the day.

i have an old canvis army jacket that i turned in to a vest, it holds what i want it to, a brick of .22s or a box of shotgun shells, its all good

one member (TDC on page #2) posted a pic of his field setup, I am going to put something together like he has done. It pretty much has all a guy need for a day out with gophers.

TDC's pack is awesome. Just make sure you don't carry a knife bigger than 3.75". Apparently some people call that "Rambo attitude" and you get flamed.
Consider yourself warned!:p
