Hevi Shot Hevi Metal - anyone used it?

Let's hear from people who have used the Hevi Metal shotshells. I understand this is denser than steel and safe to use in older guns? How does it perform? I normally use #3 steel for ducks, would I go to #4 with Hevi Metal?

If thats the type im thinking of its a mix of steel shot with alloyed shot. I wouldnt shoot it thru older fine guns with tight chokes.

Hevi Shot Classic is for older sxs fixed chokes, Hevi shot and Hevi metal both have steel in the load. Check there web page to confirm. Some of the guys I hunt with use both HM and HS but with modern autos.

I have only used a little bit of it but when compared to regular steel shotshells it's like hitting birds with a brick. #4 should do just fine for ducks.

Is $25 a box (12 gauge, 3") a decent price? I ask because the local CTC store has them on sale.

Too bad they don't have 20 ga. as well.

I have used hevi metal for the last couple years almost exclusively and it is extremely effective and definitely worth the price.

Its tough to find at least here on the east coast but Kent Bismuth or tungsten matrix are good choices.

$25/box....good heavens! I cant justify paying that much for shells when the cheap Winchester and Federal shells kill birds just fine. I just stocked up on steel 3” Winchester Xpert purchased from Cabela’s at an average cost of about $12/box on sale with rebates. Heck, I even purchased half a dozen boxes of 3.5” steel Challenger at $17/box. Unless you’re shooting an old double that cant handle steel, I would save the cash.

Call them in close and shoot them in the face...works a lot better then spending a lot on shells. Thats money I’d rather spend on target ammo so I can practice shooting clays

Heavy metal Classic is designed for old lead guns. Harder to find. Google lead shot alternative.

If i could get a few boxes for $25 I’d pick some up for sure. As long they pattern in a gun/choke combo the results on birds can be impressive. Would be nice if someone would bring out a heavier than steel non tox at steel prices, damn the economics. The pattern densities possible with 1&1/4oz or 1&3/8oz of #5 or #6 are almost unfair for a duck to try and fly through.

As a side note i make a habit of checking Canada tire frequently for shotshells. Our store sometimes has ridiculous deals on premium shells from time to time. Like AA’s for $10/box or black clouds for $18, just grabbed 10 boxes of Winchester blindside shells for $15/box

My local small shop stocks it.
Any kent dealer should be able to get it for you. Im paying around $22+tax for 10 shells
