Hevishot Dead Coyote

I'm looking for a less expensive option for shotgun ammunition when I call coyotes. I really like Hevishot Dead Coyote but not at $70+ for a box of ten. Anyone have any experience with Hornadys Heavy Magnum Coyote? I reloaded 50 rounds of 4buck but not super happy with the performance. Just don't get a nice tight pattern like Hevishot produces.
Oh yeah, I shoot a Remington 870 Super Mag with Carlson Dead Coyote choke tube.

This will sound odd, but the best shotgun load I ever had for coyotes was, an old 3" mossberg goose gun with an extra full choke, shooting old imperial BB, T or #4 lead buck shot. The 36" barrel and extra full choke did wonders. All I can tell you is that an old full choke gun was giving me more distance then my patternmaster was..... Just some food for thought. I say, lead and between bb and #4 buck, you'll find your sweet load eventually. I've been shooting old stock. The hornady stuff works great, is just way too pricey. I don't dare touch dead coyote or any heavi shot for the price it is

Winchester just brought out their new coyote load at Shot Show . 3 inch mag designed to keep patterns tight with BB shot . The rep said that during extensive testing they have found that one third of the load will hit a coyote at 70 yards and the BBs will penetrate 7 inches , enough to shred the vitals . No word on price but they were shown in a 25 round box and no mention of when they'll get to Canada .

I've hunted coyotes lots with hornady's Varmint Express 12 gauge #4 buckshot as well as their 12 gauge Heavy Magnum Nickel Plated BB. After doing long range gelatin tests with both, I was excited to get out and try the BB load on coyotes but was really surprised see a couple of coyotes run off unfazed after taking a load of BB where I could see the impacts on their thick fur (these were full-on-fluffed-up-winter-coat western coyotes). Once I switched to the #4 buck they started falling over right where they stood.

I'd stick with the #4 buck...

Never though of just trying my own loads out of a stock full choke. Defiantly going to do some more pattern testing.

Agreed. Pretty sure I will be happy with 4 buck one I figure out the right choke and load. Going to purchase some copper or nickel plated shot to help with the shot deformity. Hopefully this will help with less flyers giving me a more dense pattern.
